SIGNIS Indonesia Assembly: moving together towards the era of society 5.0

SIGNIS Indonesia held its Assembly from May 30 to June 4 at the Toraja – Makassar Archdiocese, in the country’s South.

As the SIGNIS Indonesia Assembly always looks to accommodate relevant local and national topics, this Assembly’s theme takes from what is important at the moment for the Makassar Archdiocese, this year’s host. They are currently exploring the theme “moving together”, thus SIGNIS Indonesia proposed to discuss how to deal with the challenge of digital technology 5.0. Putting these together, the theme of the 49th SIGNIS Indonesia Assembly was coined: “moving together towards the era of society 5.0″.

Over 50 members reunited at Sa’pak Bayobayo, where for 6 days they met prospective members and observers, and attended various activities like talks and trainings. On the first day, over 115 attendees had the chance to follow a seminar regarding the general theme. On the following couple of days, they did an intense video journalism training. In this case, the training was aimed at youth, and almost 50 young Catholics and parish social communication teams attended.

During the Assembly, new members were welcomed into SIGNIS Indonesia, while those who were already part of the Association presented their reports to update attendees on their latest activities, programs, and initiatives. This included a virtual address by Ms. Adeline James, Vice President of SIGNIS Asia, who shared what the SIGNIS Desks are doing in areas like radio, television, and media education.

SIGNIS Indonesia continues to work hard in promoting the use of media for peace and is committed to train the leaders of tomorrow as we all move towards the era of society 5.0.
