Ihejirika).- The Secretary of the Vatican Dicastery for Evangelization (Section for the first evangelization and new particular churches), Archbishop Fortunatus Nwachukwu, has assured SIGNIS of his support for the forthcoming World Congress 2026. Archbishop Nwachukwu gave the assurance during a chat on the 6th of January 2026 with the President of SIGNIS Africa, Fr Walter C. Ihejirika, in his hometown, Ntigha. Abia State, Nigeria.
The Vatican curia prelate expressed his delight that for the first time, the SIGNIS World Congress will be taking place in Africa and affirmed his willingness to be physically present at the event if there is no greater official assignment during the period.
Fr Ihejirika used the opportunity to express the gratitude of SIGNIS Africa to the Dicastery for the subsidies given to the association and her members to carry out numerous communication activities on the continent. He pledged that the members of SIGNIS Africa will continue to use judiciously the support received from the Pontifical Missionary Societies for the Propagation of the Faith to advance the communication apostolate of the Church in Africa.
The SIGNIS World Congress, a quadrennial gathering of Catholic communication professionals and practitioners, will take place from the 3rd to the 8th of August, 2026, in Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda. The theme of the Congress is: Digital communication for cultural harmony and environmental well-being. The portal for participant registration will open in the first week of February 2026.
