World Council of Churches looking for Communicators to support 11th Assembly

(WCC). The World Council of Churches invites communicators from around the globe to be part of a professional online communication team to support the WCC 11th Assembly in 2022. We are looking for both young communicators between 18 and 30 years old and senior, more full-fledged communicators to assist us in covering the assembly through multiple WCC communication channels globally.

While the assembly takes place in Karlsruhe, Germany, a majority of the communicators will be supporting it remotely from their home countries under the supervision of experienced staff in the WCC communication team.

A comprehensive training programme will be offered to accepted applicants. Young communicators will also learn about communication ethics, including their key role in preventing the spread of disinformation, and basic journalistic standards such as fact checking and responsible quoting.

“Young applicants are not expected to have that much experience, but they must be genuinely interested in communication and eager to learn more about the ecumenical movement,” explains Marianne Ejdersten, WCC director of Communication.
Full proficiency in English is not expected either, but applicants must be able to communicate well in English. Skills in WCC’s other official languages; German, French and Spanish, are also a plus.

Young finalists will be selected for short online interviews in August and September 2021, and begin basic communication training in October-December 2021. Upon completion of the training programme, they will receive a certificate from WCC Communication, and be invited to support the global team at the WCC 11th assembly.

Senior finalists will be selected for short online interviews from September to December 2021.

Both young and senior communicator positions are on a voluntary basis, with the WCC covering the cost of travel and accommodation for those appointed to be in Karlsruhe.

The deadline for applications is 31 October 2021. Visit this link for more details.
