50 years of The Ecumenical Prize – Cannes 2024

For the past fifty years, the Cannes Festival has hosted the Ecumenical Jury Prize. Created in 1974 by a group of Christian film professionals, this prize rewards films in the Official Competition that express spiritual, human and ethical values.
This year, we are pleased to present a commemorative booklet. It traces the history of the prize, highlighting its emblematic winners, the key moments in its history and the evolution of the cinematic landscape it reflects.
Over five decades, the Ecumenical Jury Prize has not only honoured outstanding films, but has also served as a platform for promoting inter-religious dialogue, human dignity and the message of peace in the world of the 7th art. As part of this movement, we are proud to celebrate this jubilee and pledge our continued support for cinema that inspires, questions and challenges audiences around the world.
During the Festival, we presente the 50th Anniversary Prize to a director whose cinematographic work is in perfect harmony with the fundamental values of this Prize.
