Maixabel by Spanish director Icíar Bollaín wins SIGNIS Prize at San Sebastian Film Festival

(SIGNIS). On Saturday, 25 September 2021, the SIGNIS Jury at the 69th San Sebastian International Film Festival awarded their Prize and Commendation to two films from the main competition.

Maixabel (Spain, 2021), directed by Icíar Bollaín, won the main Prize of the Jury for being a film that offers a universal message of hope and reconciliation through a true story that can move anyone, anywhere. The film reminds us that hate and revenge do not have the last word.

The Jury’s Commendation went to Quién lo impide (Spain, 2021), directed by Jonás Trueba. With humility and naturalness, the film offers a cinematographic experience of transformation and growth for the actors, the technical team and, above all, for the viewer. The film is not afraid of reality and letting it express itself in its richness and uniqueness, even with the great questions and concerns of the lives that it shows us.

This year, the San Sebastian Film Festival ran from 17 to 25 September. The members of the Jury were Agnes Ravoyard, Edorta Kortadi, and Carlos Aguilera Albesa (President).
