(Aachen, Germany). CAMECO, the Catholic Media Council, has opened applications for a Desk Officer for Latin America and the Caribbean, the German-based media and communication consultancy announced on its website.
CAMECO, a partner of SIGNIS, is a non-profit consultancy specializing in media and communication in the Global South and countries in transition. It works with local partner organizations and donors, including several international faith-based aid organizations, to strengthen community-oriented, development-focused, and Church-related media and communication. The organization advises partners on strategy and project development, from initial proposal through implementation and evaluation.
The Desk Officer will review and assess project proposals from partner organizations across Latin America and the Caribbean, accompany partners in planning and implementing media and communication initiatives, and manage projects funded by public donors and private foundations. The role also includes contributing to CAMECO’s newer areas of work, among them digital literacy, digital capacity development and design thinking.
CAMECO is seeking a candidate with a university degree in a relevant field, such as communication studies, journalism, Latin American studies, ethnology or development studies, along with professional experience in media and development cooperation. The organization is looking for substantial international experience in the region, familiarity with community, social, non-profit and Church-related media, and experience in project cycle management. Business fluency in Spanish and English is required; knowledge of Portuguese and German is considered an advantage.
Given CAMECO’s institutional ties to the Catholic Church and to faith-based development cooperation, the position calls for an understanding of, or openness to, working within Catholic and other faith-based contexts. Candidates should also be prepared to travel, particularly within Latin America and the Caribbean.
The position is offered as an initial one-year contract beginning in January 2027, with the possibility of extension, along with a competitive salary and benefits package that includes an additional pension fund. CAMECO said it is open to family-friendly working arrangements.
