IL EST UNE FOI Cinema Festival 2024 to take place in May

It is often said, that where there is faith, there is love; where there is love, there is peace; where there is peace, there is God and where there is God there is no need. Christian tradition teaches that the four last things are death, judgment, heaven and hell, and according to Venerable Fulton Sheen “A happy death is a masterpiece and no masterpiece was ever perfected in a day. People fear death chiefly because they are not prepared for it. However, death is a beautiful thing for him who dies before he dies, by dying daily to the temptations of the world, the flesh and the devil”.

The 9th edition ot Il Est Une Foi will take place from May 1 to 5, 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland. The festival is an attempt through the use of cinema to explore these multiple and ineffable dimensions of the invisible world hereafter. The event will explore these multiple and ineffable dimensions of the invisible world through the use of cinema.

At the center of great classic films such as A Matter of Life and Death by Powell & Pressburger, Paradis, by the great Russian director Andrei Konchalovsky, or After Life, in which the celebrated Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda offers a filmic recreation of memory that allows the soul to leave the intermediate space between the worlds of the living and that of the dead.

The question of ghosts will also feature prominently in the selection as in Alejandro Amenabar’s The Others suggesting that there is a continuum between the visible and the invisible, the barrier between the two being a mere effect of perception! Moreover, Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul will explore themes of reincarnation and center on the last days of life.

In the 2024 edition of IL EST UNE FOI, the organizers wish to share a high-quality cultural offering, with a diversified program designed to open up discussion on human and social issues. Most screenings are accompanied by guest debates open to the general public. As every year, Rendez-vous Cinéma becomes a meeting place where Catholics can identify themselves, but also a space for dialogue open to all, Catholics or not, believers or non-believers.
