Afghan director Ramin Rassouli  wins SIGNIS Inter-Faith Award at Fajr Film Festival

June 2, 2021 (SIGNIS). The Dogs Didn’t Sleep Last Night directed by Ramin Rassouli (Afghanistan, 2020) won the 2021 SIGNIS Inter-Faith Award at the 38th Fajr International Film Festival in Tehran. After the festival’s cancellation in 2020, the 38th edition of the festival was held from May 26th to June 2nd, 2021.

In a remote part of Afghanistan, two young men and their teacher are the only survivors of the burning of their school by the Taliban. Despite the tragedy they went through, each reacts with a spirit of resistance and forgiveness. The story unfolds in a triptych and in stunning settings. For director Ramin Rassouli, education is the key to a culture of peace and dialogue. The personalities of the various characters, and an element of mystery, lead each viewer to take part in this story.

The members of the jury were Habibreza Arzani (Iran), Magimai Pragasam (India) and Magali Van Reeth (France).
