SIGNIS and INTERFILM Condemn the Arrest of three Iranian Filmmakers

During the last few days, 3 Iranian directors were arrested: Mohammad Rasoulof, Mostafa Aleahmad and Jafar Panahi. Iran is a leading country in contemporary cinematographic creation and these internationally renowned filmmakers have presented their works at all the major festivals in the world.

Mohammad Rasoulof won the Ecumenical Prize at the Berlinale 2020 for the film There is No Evil. Jafar Panahi won the SIGNIS-WACC Human Rights Prize in 2014 for the film Taxi Tehran.

SIGNIS and INTERFILM, which set up ecumenical juries to promote a culture of peace, denounce in a common voice this attack on artistic creation and free movement of filmmakers who have always defended the wisdom and resilience of the Iranian people and who have allowed the whole world to better understand this country with thousand-year-old artistic traditions.
